In the summer of 2002, seven type designers were asked by the University of Minnesota’s Design Institute to submit proposals for a custom typeface. The typeface would be used for the Institute’s Twin Cities Design Celebration (TCDC), whose goal was to highlight the influence design has on local cities and economies.
Among other things, the brief contained the deceptively simple question, “How might a typeface express what is unique about a city?”
