End-User License Basics

Because fonts are considered software, they are also licensed like software. Instead of purchasing fonts outright (or “owning” them), buyers are purchasing a license permitting them to reproduce (use) the font under the conditions outlined in the license.

The Process Type Foundry license permits the installation and use of the font on one computer with up to five output devices (printers) at a single location. Additionally, the license allows users to embed fonts within non-editable PDF’s and send fonts to a service bureau for output. If the font will be installed on more than one computer at the same geographic location, a discounted multi-user license can be purchased.

Read the license for specific details.
License Concepts Explained
Single Geographic Location
Our license allows for the installation and use of fonts at one single geographic location. For example, a work group officing in the same building can buy a 2-3 multi-user license and install & use the font on up to three separate computers. However, a single person cannot buy a 2-3 multi-user license and then share the license with others who office or live in other locations to receive the multi-user discount. In that example, each user would buy their own single license.

Designers and Clients
If a designer (or agency) buys a font intended for a specific external client’s project, she has license to also use that font for as many other client projects afterward as she wishes. The designer, in this instance, is the “end user”. However, if that client should take on design or production themselves, or hire an additional designer or agency to work on that project using our fonts, those parties would need to purchase their own licenses to legally use the fonts.

Modifying Font Outlines
You do have the right to modify and alter the software for your customary personal and business use. However, under no circumstances may the resulting work be for resale or further distribution.
